PARAGRAPH 1

What is your passion?

My have a passion for video game designs and illustrations, and also animation. I love to look at the art books that shows the process of the designs for these modern day entertainment.

PARAGRAPH 2

What’s motivate you to achieve your dream?

Visualising myself in a team/department that contributes to a video game that will be enjoyed and appreciated by many. I want to be able to do the things that I enjoy for the rest of my life, I am very repelled by the idea of working a normal office day to day job…

SUMMARY

How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?

Incorporating various video game styles into an artwork, making it surreal and fantastical because it is not reality and everything can be possible or cultivated in a limitless sandbox.

2. Write a statement about your work

INTRO

Being able to live in an out of the world experience for a moment.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is the concept behind it?

Me as a character in a character selection screen in different video games genres, from indie horror games to adventure games to rhythm games to storytelling narrative games to level grinding games.

PARAGRAPH 2

What is the message you want people to understand it?

Video games, like many other modern day entertainment, allows us to escape reality and be able to live in another world even for just a moment.

SUMMARY

What is your motto/ quote?

Live in the moment.

Design Direction / Sketch

The idea here is to have an indie horror game vibe, where everything seems fine and cutesy in the beginning but then it takes a dark turn for a few seconds, then back to being fine again as if nothing has happened.

This is heavily inspired by a trend on Instagram started by @freiskamaze where the character looks happy until they turn towards the audience with a menacing and unsettling glare.

I choose the instrumental of Captain Murphy's "Disciples" because I feel like it gives an unsettling feeling since it is the instrumental of a cut for a cult video.

 3 || Feedback

When I showed my moodboard and sketches, Mr Martin told me to continue on with the final poster on Photoshop because it was hard to imagine or picture with only the sketches.

I made 2 final posters with one creepy version and Mr Martin said that it was not 'horror' enough because everything in it has a cutesy vibe. He then tells me to continue with the animation in After Effects.

For the animated video, he said that one of the 'try again' layers are not noticeable enough, and advised me to double up the layer to make it more visible.

4 || Reflection

I was actually looking forward to doing this project and had an idea for what I wanted to do for a very long time. However, I became very skeptical of my poster and idea after receiving feedback from the lecturer. I wasn't aware that my idea was a 'vector art' and was unsure if this could be accepted. But then I managed to pull off with the original idea I had in mind in the end luckily.

Throughout this project, I feared the process in After Effects the most because it is still unfamiliar territory as we have only had 1 class on it. It turned out fine because as I got a hang of it, it was pretty fun to work on. I'm glad that I pulled through and was able to finish this project. It was fun to work on and I had been anticipating it since the beginning of the semester.
